Varadero Shopping

Varadero offers different choices to the tourists and its inhabitants for practically all kinds of shopping. There are very expensive boutiques, flea markets, malls, craft and souvenir stores, etc.

If you are looking for a mall, one of your best options is the former Parque de las 8000 taquillas, which has been lately put under a general remodeling together with Varadero’s Coppelia (famous chain of ice-cream parlors), which has been turned into a luxurious cafeteria. This mall has taken a new name: Centro Comercial Hicaco. There are many shops among which we could mention souvenir, cigar, and photo developing stores, as well as an Infotur office. The out-of-doors artisan’s market that used to be there, was relocated somewhere else down the very 1st Avenue and was named Gran Parque de la Artesanía. A minor handicraft market can be found at the same avenue, between 51st and 52nd Streets.

The Casa de las Américas, which is a commercial branch of the renowned cultural institution in Havana, offers music albums, books and art of all kinds. This is also one of those extremely-hard-to-find places in Cuba in which you can find ancient copies of famous books released by prestigious editorials all over the world.

If your intention is purchasing cigars, the right place to go is Varadero’s Casa del Habano. This is a small shop, but it has a perfect ambiance and the products sold there are specially selected. The staff is also very nice and they know a lot about the cigar business.

The Varadero Art Gallery is the spot where historic jewels, incredibly valuable silver and glass, paintings by famous authors, as well as other relics that remind us of Varadero’s ancient bourgeoisie are offered for sale. The prices are in correspondence with the value of the pieces. Since the majority of the items are part of Varadero’s historical heritage and most of the people who buy them are from other countries, everything is suitably sold with the export permission. The Taller de la Cerámica Artística is right by this gallery. There you can purchase excellent artistic pottery, created at the same they are put up for sale. The vast majority of the pieces cost about 200 CUC.

The Bazar Varadero Publicigraf, located at the Parque Central, is a nice spot for people that want to buy ceramics, copies of well-known paintings, creative postcards, wall drapery, jerseys, books, and magazines. There’s a boutique that sales mostly clothes next-door to it.

Kawama Sport is the best place if you are looking for swimming implements like snorkels and masks, as well as for finding running shoes, baseballs, bats, and other sport implements you may feel you need while in Varadero.

The famous Centro Todo en Uno is a mall with an average size, but it has many well-provided shops, a bowling alley, as well as several amusements for kids and adults, such as bumper cars and a roller coaster. It is very popular among tourists and Cubans in general, that’s why it is full of people most of the year.

Photo Service is a chain of shops spread all over the country where you can find the assistance you need when handling and taking your photos, as well as buying some other items and snacks.

There's a small flea market across from the Acuazul Hotel: ARTex Handicraft Market. It has a first-rate collection of music albums, cassettes, jerseys, and even some instruments for those that like to play music. It would also be useful to look into the other ARTex stores.

The Plaza de las Américas, which is the largest shopping center in Varadero and Cuba, offers the most suitable kind of merchandise for those that like to acquire top-quality products. There you can buy upmarket boutiques, art and cigar shops, restaurants, bars, a post office, a bank, a small market, car rental bureaus, summing up, anything you can think of, as well as the Varadero Convention Center.

However, if you don’t want to move much to do your shopping, you may find it easy, because there are Caracol shops in most of the hotels in Varadero. These shops offer many products such as food, souvenirs, swimming implements, etc. The prices there are very similar to the ones you will find anywhere else.
